We provided civil and structural engineering consultancy services for the new purpose made technology centre for the manufacture of subsea controls. The building is approximately 6,500m2 with the flexibility to add a further 2,000m2 of workshop area and comprises two storeys of office and administration area and 60m x 65m of workshop area.
The structure comprises a two span steel portal frame with half of the workshop floor serviced by a 30T overhead crane. The structure supporting the crane was detailed to avoid inertia reactions from crane movements being transferred to the adjacent office areas.
Innovative details were developed to the building perimeter as part of the value-engineering process which contributed to successfully bringing the scheme in on budget.
The office floors are serviced using raised access floor finishes.
The extensive roof and hardstanding yard area represents a significant impermeable area and a co-ordinated SUDS scheme has been developed which segregates the roof water (which is deemed clean and directed to soakaways in the car park) and the yard level surface water (directed to a second soakaway via a petrol interceptor) which incorporates emergency spill shut-off valves.
The scheme was delivered on programme and budget.
