Rossi Long provided civil and structural engineering services together with transport advice for the new build school development. The facility provides education for 420 pupils in the expanding Norwich suburb of Cringleford. The project was funded by the OGC.
The building comprised a single storey hybrid solution including steel framed class base “wings” and halls, with load bearing masonry corridor and administration areas. This provided an economic design utilizing steel framing for the larger clear span areas whilst also offering future flexibility of teaching spaces.
We also provided Flood Risk Assessment advice at planning stage incorporating Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). Such techniques enabled on site management of the surface water runoff from roofs and hard paved areas using permeable paved construction linked into percolation devices. These measures helped the team to achieve BREAAM “Very Good” rating for the development.
