A brand-new building designed to celebrate and support Norfolk’s agri-food sector. Located at the Norfolk Showground, the Norfolk Food Hall provides space for over 100 local food producers who offer a selection of fresh and seasonal goods.
Intended to be a top retail destination, the Norfolk Food Hall’s purpose is to provide local catering not only to events held at the Showground but also to draw shoppers and diners in from further afield.
The light-filled Hall provides 3,500 square feet of retail space, which includes a butchery, delicatessens and farm shop. A 140-seat restaurant offers farm-to-table dining, with additional seating space outside. Inside, the building has been fitted out to a high standard.
Externally, the building has been designed to reflect the surrounding Norfolk countryside with a semi-agricultural design. The low-rise steel frame has been covered with insulated cladding panels to help it blend with the surrounding area.
On-site parking and a new cycling track access provision have also been incorporated into the build, ensuring the site is accessible.
Eco-friendly touches feature throughout the design, such as solar panels, EV charging stations, bike storage and a high standard of thermal insulation, reflecting a commitment to sustainability.
Our team were appointed from the first concept through to completion, providing full civil and structural design, transport planning and flood risk services.
We designed the steel frame structure of the building, which was clad with insulated cladding, creating a building to blend with the rural surrounding.
Constructed on a sloping site, careful planning was required for site levels to provide suitable means of access and for the building to sit comfortably within the surrounding landscape.
Working closely with the design team and the client, we helped to provide an economical solution to meet the budgetary constraints of the project for a high-quality build that is a valuable addition to the showground site and the wider community.
